Whatcom Lake House

This rolling site is heavily wooded and consisted of an existing house the clients had lived in for 25 years. Our goal was to keep every tree on site and so the design used the existing foundation for the new 3,200 square foot structure. A bridge spans from the higher auto-court elevation to the “tree house” main floor and the expansive views of Lake Whatcom.

The lower floor daylights to the existing yard and the upper floor is built as a viewing “birds nest” with a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding elements.

The vertical wood siding embraces the many cedar and birch trees throughout the site.
